Bernd Spitzbarth studied at the academy of Music "Franz Liszt“ in Weimar. He visits masterclasses for instance at Kurt Masur, KurtSanderling, Karl Österreicher and Uwe Gronostay.

He teaches choir conducting at the "Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock“.

Under his direction  his youth choir won many awards at national and international choir competitions. He also produced a lot of a capella music at the  North German Broadcasting. He conducts a lot of re-premieres of the ancient music period the so called "Ludwigsluster Klassik“ with prestigious soloists and baroque ensembles and different performances of contemporary music.
